First Draft Playwrights’ Circle

First Draft Theatre Workshop

Member Readings: Ongoing

Overview

Back in 2002, three fledgling playwrights with varying degrees of success and experience formed the First Draft Theatre Workshop. Our goal was to meet every six weeks or so and read, out loud, a new play, scene, or any work-in-progress by any of the dozens of playwrights in the Delaware area.

Since those early years we have developed into the only ongoing free workshop for playwrights in our area. Over the past few years we’ve read scores of plays by dozens of playwrights, and the feedback generated through the workshops have helped give the writers the confidence and tools they need to continue developing their works. And we’ve seen our membership surge as we’ve offered new programs and workshops for local writers.

Every year, we host the First Draft Playwright’s Circle, two evenings of staged readings written by First Draft Theatre members. The performances are fully directed and staged by the wonderful actors and directors involved with the Drama League.

The First Draft Theatre Workshop continues to meet every month or so for casual, sitdown readings of members’ new plays. To get involved, drop a line to firstdraft (at) comcast.net.

Next up at First Draft Theatre:

Readings of new plays by Andrew Chambless and Kristyn Leigh Robinson.
